Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed gambling on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played countless hours and do not win most times. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his abilities happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often wager against each other. He had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL hold’em.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the best women players the poker world ever. He headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
