NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
