NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
