Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
