No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
